467   ImageFirst United States Government Printing of a Stamp Image. Two items, first is page 547 from the "Resolutions" of the 26th Congress 1st Session dated June 10, 1840, second is a proposal by Webster to reduce our postage rates followed by "Extract from a newspaper published in the city of London." dated April 28, 1840 concerning "THE PENNY POSTAGE STAMPS.", explains in detail rates and usages of the new adhesive, the next page is a full-size reproduction of the 1p Mulready letter sheet superimposed with an incomplete rendering of the 1p Black adhesive with the corner "bent over' to show that it is not part of the letter sheet

VERY FINE. AN IMPORTANT HISTORICAL PHILATELIC DOCUMENT, OF WHICH PERHAPS THREE ARE KNOWN TO HAVE SURVIVED.

This facsimile of Great Britain's Mulready and Penny Black was printed in 1840 as part of the "Resolutions" of the 26th Congress, in which Daniel Webster introduced a bill to reform postage rates. (Image)

469 c ImageCharles Dickens Autograph. Clear signature at bottom left of 1842 cover addressed to Captain Frederick Granville, the original address was in Dickens' hand, but crossed out and replaced by Captain Granville's address, cover franked with two 1p Red, "1 Granville" handstamp, red "Too Late", Stratford (Oct. 21) and Great Malvern backstamps, cover with small faults including file fold thru stamps, the important signature is Very Fine, Captain Granville was a friend of Dickens, the Free Library of Philadelphia has a digital image of a letter written by Dickens to Granville in October 1842, this cover may very well have contained that letter, a desirable Charles Dickens autograph when he was at the height of his popularity (Image)

VERY FINE. ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLES OF THE 1862 6-PENCE WATERMARK THREE ROSES AND THISTLE ERROR.

This error, in which the rose emblem replaced the shamrock in the watermark, is found only on position T-F. A tiny number are known. The others we have seen are either poorly centered and/or have faults. The example offered here is one of the finest (if not the finest) copies in existence.
