Sep. 1" (1857) circular datestamp and matching "5" and "PAID" handstamps on blue folded letter to Lausanne, Switzerland, red "New-York Br. Pkt. Sep. 2" circular datestamp, bold "GB/1F60c" Anglo-French accountancy handstamp, Calais transit datestamp, London, Paris and receiving backstamps, red crayon "95" (rappens) due, light horizontal file fold, Very Fine, unusual routing, this was prepaid 5c for British Open Mail by British Packet (carried on the Cunarder Arabia), after the U.S.-French treaty went into effect on April 1, 1857 most mail to Switzerland was sent at the 21c French Treaty rate -- the 5c British and 21c American Packet rates were allowed but discouraged and are scarce, ex Winter (Image)
