4540 c ImageBRAZIL, 1843, 60r Black, Early Impression (2). Huge margins all around, tied by brown "S. Joao. Del Rei" straightline handstamp on March 1844 folded letter to Rio de Janeiro, cover with minor faults and small repairs along weak folds, stamp with slight erosion from cancel ink

FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 60-REIS EARLY IMPRESSION "BULLS-EYE" ON COVER CANCELLED BY A PRE-ADHESIVE PERIOD STRAIGHTLINE TOWN MARKING ON THE ADDRESS SIDE OF THE COVER.

The Bull's Eye stamps were often affixed to the backs of covers. Examples tied on the face of the cover are much more desirable and scarce. Illustrated in Juchert and Maassen on page 249.
