3086 c ImagePhiladelphia Full-Rigged Ship. Clear strike of this pictorial handstamp in red, matching bold "PHILA./28/FEB." octagonal double-line frame crossed out, as is the "27" manuscript rating, on incoming folded ship cover datelined "U.S. Ship Vincennes, At Sea" to Portland Me., 1834 docketing at right, manuscript "Forwarded by G.H.N. who is here, all is well" in an arc around wax seal on back, Very Fine and very unusual, we don't know whether the datestamp and rate were crossed out because it was carried privately or whether this was done after receiving payment from the recipient, according to Wikipedia, the Vincennes was the first U.S. Navy ship to circumnavigate the globe, in 1833 she was deployed to the Pacific for the second time and was the first American warship to call at Guam, she sailed around the world again before returning to the east coast in 1836, she later became the flagship for the Wilkes expedition to Antarctica (Image)
