653 S Image12c Agriculture, "Sepcimen" Error (O6Sa). Without gum as issued, vivid color, small slightly soiled thin spot at top left

FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT AGRICULTURE "SEPCIMEN" ERROR. FEWER THAN FIVE ARE KNOWN.

Robert Markovits recorded only three examples of the 12c Agriculture "Sepcimen" error (2004 Bennett sale). There are probably one or two outside of his census, including one offered in our Sale 1017 that had a large stained repair. Only 379 of the 12c Agriculture Special Printing were sold, but it is not known how the stamps were taken from the sheets or if full sheets were exhausted before breaking a subsequent sheet. The famed Golden collection, sold by the Siegel Firm in 2015, did not have a copy. (Image)

VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE AND OUTSTANDING IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER BLOCK OF 14 OF THE ONE-CENT EXECUTIVE WITH "SPECIMEN" OVERPRINT. A WONDERFUL SHOWPIECE.

After the plate number "81" was engraved on the 1c plate, it was realized that No. 81 had already been assigned to the 30c War plate. The number was scratched out and replaced with "82" above Position 7 and below Position 97. (Image)

656 S Image1c Executive on Soft Porous Paper, Specimen Ovpt. (O10xS). American Bank Note Co. printing, top imprint and plate no. 82 strip of ten with plate no. 81 etched out, without gum as issued, bright color, tiny hinge slivers reinforcing perfs but only preventively as there are few separations

VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE TOP IMPRINT AND PLATE NUMBER STRIP OF TEN OF THE ONE-CENT EXECUTIVE SPECIAL PRINTING ON SOFT PAPER.

After the plate number "81" was engraved on the 1c plate, it was realized that No. 81 had already been assigned to the 30c War plate. The number was scratched out and replaced with "82" above Position 7 and below Position 97.

Imprint and plate number multiples are unlisted in Scott on soft paper. By way of comparison, Scott Retail for an imprint strip of seven on ribbed paper is $3,250.00 (versus $280.00 for seven singles). The soft paper printing is more than twice as scarce as the ribbed paper printing (4,652 soft paper sold versus 10,000 for ribbed paper). Therefore this complete top row, were it to be priced in Scott, should be at least $7,000.00 (Image)
