1257		FRANCE, 1893-1941, 10c Brown Postage Due, Bisected Usage (J30 var; Yvert TT29). Horizontal bisect, bottom half tied by "Chalon-S-Saone, Saone-et-Loire, 3-1 17" on Notre Dame postcard upon arrival, card sent from St. Mande where a 5c Green (159) was applied and tied on Jan. 2, 1917, red manuscript instruction "Taxe ainsi faute de vignettes" in pen and "T" in triangle, card with light soiling FINE. A RARE AND UNRECORDED BISECT USAGE OF THE 10-CENTIMES BROWN POSTAGE DUE. LIKELY A UNIQUE USAGE. The rate for an internal postcard with five or fewer words in the message was 10 centimes - a rate which went into effect on January 1, 1917 - one day prior to this card being sent. While not specifically authorized, it is not unlikely that there may have been a shortage of 5 centimes stamps at the receiving post office due to the ongoing Great War.
