3067   ImagePHILIPPINES, 1c-$1.00 Trans-Mississippi (285-292). Complete set through the $1.00, each tied to small piece of notebook paper by "Military Sta. No. 3 San Fran., Iloilo, Phil. Islands Apr. 19, 2 PM" duplex cancel, three of the lower denomination stamps with some slight edge toning which does not affect the 50c or $1.00 (latter with natural s.e.)

FINE-VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE SET OF THE 1898 TRANS-MISSISSIPPI ISSUE THROUGH THE $1.00 WITH PHILIPPINES U.S. MILITARY STATION CANCELS.

3068 S ImagePHILIPPINES, 1899, 1c-$5.00 Ovpts., UPU Overseas Postal Administration "Specimen" Ovpts. (213S/225S var, E1S var, J1S-J7S var). Complete set (10c Ty. II and $1.00 Ty. II not known), mostly either no gum or small part disturbed original gum as these were stuck down in postal archive books, the removal from which also caused thins on some, bright colors, several below the $1.00 with natural s.e.

FINE APPEARANCE. AN ALMOST CERTAINLY UNIQUE SET OF "SPECIMEN" STAMPS PROVIDED TO FOREIGN POSTAL ARCHIVES.

Stamps were first affixed to archive albums and then overprinted by the postal authorities upon receipt from the UPU. This set comes from a 1976 Robson Lowe sale and has not been offered to the market since then. A similar set with different "Specimen" overprints was offered in our 2009 Whitpain sale (realized $5,750) (Image)
