VERY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, 5-CENT POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ON WHITE PAPER USED ON COVER.
The addressees were Colt & Robinson, who formed the New York & Offing Telegraph Company in 1845 ("Offing" is not a location, but is the furthest point on the Atlantic horizon visible with a telescope). Samuel Colt, to whom the cover is redirected, was an inventor who became famous for his small arms manufacturing firm, which produced the legendary Colt 45.

FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PLATE OF 40 OF THE NEW YORK POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL.
All of the issued New York provisional stamps come from the single engraved plate of 40, made up of eight horizontal rows of five. Over the two-year period that the stamps were valid, 143,600 were delivered, including the stamps on Blue and Gray papers from the last printing in 1847. (Image)
EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE PAIR OF THE 5-CENT NEW YORK POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ISSUE ON GRAY PAPER.
This style of New York cancel, with the bar between the month and date and with the rate straight instead of contoured to the rim of the circular datestamp, was used late in the life of the New York Postmaster's Provisional.
Ex Boker, Grunin and Farrington. With 1992 P.F. certificate. (Image)
VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 10-CENT ST. LOUIS PROVISIONAL ON PELURE PAPER
A survey of our Levi records and auction catalogues produced a tally of approximately 35 examples of the 10c Pelure off and on cover. The vast majority of these stamps have faults, many severe, or margins cutting into the design. This is one of the finest we have encountered, and it is especially desirable with the numeral "10" manuscript cancel.
