3565 E   image1899-1901 two picture postcards and one stationery card to Germany, "Station Basari", "Station Kpandu" and "Station Misahohe" markings, fine and scarce group, each with arrival pmks. Togo was a small Colony, with only 17 regular post offices. Government officials in smaller villages prepared their own station markings meant to indicate the origin of the mail being sent by them or others from those locations. Station markings were not supposed to be used to cancel stamps, which was done at the outgoing post offices (Image)

Pre-WWI period shows the Nile Campaign in Sudan, International Occupation Force of Crete, Anglo-Boer War with Orange Free State and Transvaal, Boxer Rebellion, Asian Expeditions to Tibet, Afghanistan and Bhutan. There are 9 covers or cards from Sudan, starting with "Active Service no stamps procurable" cover with hand drawn "Dongola Sep 25 96" pmk, sent via Wadi Halfa Camp to England, where it was charged 2 1/2d, other covers from Firket and Dondola, Base Office B, Merovi, Darmali and Halfa. British Forces in Crete include mail sent through the Austrian Post Office in Candia, cover with specially prepared "International Occupation Governor Monofatsi" handstamp on cover through the Austrian Post Office to London, cards from Chania and Iraklion, showing special "Army Service Corps" and "2nd Royal Sussex Reg't" markings. Covers from Orange Free State used in 1900 include "British Army South Africa" Field Post cancels, also "Tchaba 'Nchu", "Schmidts Drift" and others used 1901-02, V.R.I. overprints on cards or covers from FPO 30, FPO 38, Natal Field Force 2 from Transvaal, etc. There is a cover and card with Temporary P.O.D. and Khamba-Jong markings from British Forces in Tibet, Base Office C cover from Bhutan addressed to New Zealand, also 1912 cover to "Abor Expeditionary Force / India", with unrecorded arrival marking of Base Office C (signed Holcombe). In addition, there are two cards from British Post Office in Constantinople and cover from Sofia to London, sent via diplomatic pouch, showing address of a major in No.2 Bulgarian Unit of the British Red Cross.
