681 E 11 image1862 captured Union Patriotic, turned cover, first use (inside) with 10c blue (Archer-Daly), four margins tied by Tawboro N.C. March 18 cds to Louisburg, N.C. Second use, with 10c (Archer-Daly), tied by Louisburg cds and addressed to Miss A. C. Parker, Tawboro, N.C. The outside use shows a large embossed colorless oval regimental shield design for the 12th Mass Regt. Col Fletcher Webster. The second use stamp has been placed over a portion of the Union Patriotic design (Col Fletcher Webster, oldest son of Daniel Webster was commissioned Colonel of the 12th Mass Inf. and was killed-in-action at 2nd Manassas (Bull Run) on 30th August 1862). The cover has not been flapped or cut to display the inside usage, some toning, signed Brian Green and John Kimbrough. 687 E   image1864 cover addressed to "Mr. James C Wall, Prisoner of War Camp Morton Indianapolis, Indiana", franked with uncanceled U.S. 3c rose, further endorsed "By flag of Truce via City Point", penciled "U.S. Currency" and on back "Postage enclosed in silver", fine, with elaborate Molesworth's write-up. Envelopes containing cash for Rebel POWs were separated from the regular mail at Fortress Monroe and carried to the prisons by military couriers. Since this routing bypassed the Federal mails, stamps on such covers were not canceled. Mr. Wall enlisted in 1863 at Princeton, WV and was taken prisoner in 1864 at Piedmont, Va, confined to Camp Morton and exchanged on March 3, 1865 (Image)
