3069 og image1894, Empress Dowager 60th Birthday, 1st printing, 24ca rose carmine, vertical pair imperforate between (Chan 30a. Scott 24a), sumptuous color, wonderfully fresh, unused with large part original gum, lower stamp has faint horizontal crease, still Very Fine.

3070 O image1894, Empress Dowager 60th Birthday, 1st printing, 24ca rose carmine, Chinese character "Two" with distant dot (Chan 30d. Scott 24 var.), the variety being the top stamp in a vertical pair, from Pane 2, positions 5/10, deep bright color, centered to lower left with apparently imperforate margin at right, centrally canceled by complete "Customs/Tientsin" double-ring datestamp in blue, Fine to Very Fine and rare.

In the unsurcharged printing, there were six panes in the sheet, with only one stamp showing the distant "dot" variety, which represents one stamp per each 150 printed. (Image1) (Image2)

(11.12), showing "Registered" unframed handstamp in blue, framed "R" handstamp in red and "Modane à Paris" French entry c.d.s. in red adjacent, the 9ca has gum residue around perforations at top, Very Fine and appealing usage from the Berteaux correspondence, registered triple rate (Postage 9ca x 3 = 27ca + 6ca registration fee = 33 candarins).
