(cut into two singles) each have a truncated margin at one corner still leaving frame lines clear, Very Fine. A rare and desirable assembly with these Taiwan cancellations,

8 Pbl image1894, Empress Dowager 60th Birthday, 1ca. to 24ca. complete, in marginal or corner blocks of four, imperforate plate proofs of the 3rd printing in colors of the 2nd printing on hard wove paper, radiant colors, the 9ca. in the distinctive yellow green shade and the 24ca. in a deep rich shade, the 2ca., 4ca., 5ca., 9ca. and 12ca. signed "Radv" (R.A. de Villard), the 1ca. has a light horizontal bend just crossing the lower row of stamps, one 6a. has a short crease and the 24ca. has a negligible diagonal bend in top sheet margin just crossing the top left stamp, all merely mentioned for the sake of accuracy, Very Fine to Extremely Fine. A rare and exquisite set of these proofs.

Robert Alexis de Villard, a French member of the Customs Service in the Statistical Department of Customs at Shanghai, was the designer of the Dowager Empress 60th Birthday Commemorative issue, as well as other stamps for the Shanghai Local Post.
