LotNo. Symbol Lot Description
54 ngbl image1866, Large Dragon (Antique Numerals, "CANDAREENS" plural), 6ca red brown, wove paper, printing 58 (Livingston 31. Scott 21. Chan LS18), complete sheet of 6, the third stamp variety dramatically placed impression struck well below the others; two light vertical creases, one crossing the fifth stamp, without gum as issued, a Very Fine and remarkable variety,

Although the stamps were handpress-printed one at a time from a single die, considerable care was taken in their application to the format in a sheet of six, and therefore only a handful of such misplaced impressions are recorded. The two most spectacular examples appear in an 8 Candareens printing 32 strip of four from the Newbury and Chow Wei-Liang collections and the above 6 Candareens sheet. See Jeffrey S. Schneider, ed., China's First Postage Stamps. The Enlarged "Dim Sum" Collection of Shanghai Large Dragons, Jane and Dan Sten Olsson, p. 180.
