842 byrd, richard e. image1926 Richard E. Byrd "First Flight to the North Pole" Carnegie Hall Program, Original illustrated program and souvenir booklet issued in connection with New York's Testimonial to Lieutenant-Commander Richard E. Byrd, held at Carnegie Hall on Friday evening, June 25, 1926, shortly after Byrd and pilot Floyd Bennett's celebrated May 9, 1926 Arctic flight.Presented under the management of James B. Pond, the booklet is titled Byrd: Telling His Own Story of The First Flight to the North Pole with Thrilling Motion Pictures. Interior contents include a portrait of Byrd, an account of the expedition and flight, period photographic illustrations, discussion of the aircraft Josephine Ford, navigational equipment and Arctic conditions, and a detailed roster of expedition personnel including Byrd, Floyd Bennett and other members of the expedition. The concluding program records the Carnegie Hall testimonial, with introductory remarks by Dr. John H. Finley of the American Geographical Society, a poem of welcome by Edwin Markham, remarks by Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Douglas Robinson, Byrd's address on "The First Flight to the North Pole," and motion pictures of the flight produced by Pathé.An appealing piece of early American aviation and polar exploration history produced at the height of the public celebration surrounding Byrd's 1926 expedition. 849 gun rifle imageMid-19th Century American Percussion Long Rifle with Engraved G. Goulcher Lock, Mid-19th century American muzzle-loading percussion long rifle, featuring a long barrel set in a dark walnut-toned wooden stock with brass furniture. The rifle is fitted with an elaborately engraved percussion lock marked "G. GOULCHER," decorated with scrolling foliate ornament and a game-bird scene, together with an engraved brass sideplate and brass trigger guard.George Goulcher supplied precision percussion locks during the mid-19th century for use by independent American gunsmiths, and locks bearing his name are encountered on Kentucky/Pennsylvania-style long rifles, plains rifles and other sporting arms of the period. Accordingly, the Goulcher marking should be considered the maker of the lock rather than necessarily the maker of the complete firearm. The present example retains an attractive aged wooden stock, long barrel, single trigger and period brass mounts, with pleasing untouched patina throughout. Surface oxidation, finish loss, scratches, handling wear and other age-related imperfections are present. Mechanical function, bore condition and caliber have not been determined. An attractive surviving example of the American percussion sporting-rifle tradition of the antebellum period. (Image) (Image2) (All Images)

880 toys star trek imageStar Trek USS Enterprise NCC-1701 Model Flown to Edge of Space, Peter Diamandis Provenance, USS Enterprise NCC-1701 model accompanied by its original "Certificate of Authenticity" documenting its participation in the May 5, 2012 "Send Picard and Kirk To Space" mission. The certificate states that this particular Enterprise model traveled to approximately 100,000 feet, above more than 99% of Earth's atmosphere, carrying Captain Kirk as part of the high-altitude balloon flight. The certificate is especially noteworthy in being personally presented to Peter H. Diamandis, entrepreneur and founder of the XPRIZE Foundation, and is signed by the project's mission director. The May 5, 2012 flight is independently documented by StarTrek.com. The mission carried models of the original USS Enterprise NCC-1701 and Enterprise-D, together with Kirk, Picard and other figures, aboard a high-altitude balloon. The payload reached approximately 100,000 feet before returning by parachute; the NCC-1701 reportedly landed nose-first but was recovered intact. An unusual crossover collectible combining Star Trek memorabilia, near-space flight history and Peter Diamandis/XPRIZE provenance.
