588 roosevelt, franklin d. imageFranklin D. Roosevelt 1928 Signed Taconic State Park Commission & Boy Scouts Archive, Historically interesting archive concerning Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Taconic State Park Commission and the Hendrick Hudson Council of the Boy Scouts of America, centered upon a dispute over the proposed acquisition of the Council's Roaring Brook property for development of the Taconic parkway.Highlighted by a September 15, 1928 two-page typed letter signed "Franklin D. Roosevelt" as Chairman of the Taconic State Park Commission. Addressed to James H. Carter, President of the Hendrick Hudson Council, Boy Scouts of America, Roosevelt discusses the proposed acquisition of the Roaring Brook property, explains that the projected parkway right-of-way would require the site, reiterates the Commission's offer to purchase the property, and advises that absent acceptance the State would proceed by appropriation. Also included are retained copies of September 24 and September 28, 1928 correspondence addressed directly to Roosevelt by representatives of the Hendrick Hudson Council, strongly objecting to the proposed taking and describing the Scout organization's substantial investment in the property. The correspondence provides unusually detailed context surrounding the dispute and Roosevelt's work as chairman of the Commission shortly before his election as Governor of New York.Accompanied by a later March 12, 1943 typed letter to William S. Kies containing a humorous reference to having once "snubbed the man who was destined to be the first master of the American people," further relating to Roosevelt's subsequent rise to the presidency.A substantial and appealing archive documenting Roosevelt's pre-presidential public service, New York conservation and park development, and the Boy Scouts of America. Roosevelt's signature is prominently placed and readily legible. (Image) (Image2) (Image3) (Image4) (Image5) (Image6) (All Images)

590 rudolph, arthur image1964 Arthur Rudolph Signed Saturn I Apollo Test Flight Cover, Saturn V Program Manager, September 18, 1964 Saturn I/Apollo commemorative test-flight cover, postmarked Cape Canaveral, Florida, and bearing a handwritten autograph and extensive inscription by Arthur Rudolph (1906–1996): "Arthur Rudolph / Program Manager / Saturn V Launch Vehicle System (Moon Rocket) / NASA-MSFC."Rudolph was one of the central figures in the development of America's heavy-lift lunar launch vehicle, serving as manager of NASA's Saturn V Program Office at Marshall Space Flight Center. NASA documentation identifies him as Director of the Saturn V Program Office, while contemporary records credit him with managing the Saturn V program from 1963 to 1968.The cover features printed Saturn I/Apollo imagery and text describing the launch vehicle, with a September 18, 1964 Cape Canaveral cancellation. The lengthy period inscription is particularly desirable because Rudolph specifically identifies his position and the "Saturn V Launch Vehicle System (Moon Rocket)", giving the autograph excellent direct association with the Apollo lunar program. 596 sidmouth, lord imageGreat Britain, Lord Sidmouth–Signed License for Grain Importation from the United States to Lisbon during the War of 1812, Lot of 2 items, Historic Whitehall (London), August 24, 1812. Printed document on laid paper, 9.25 x 7.5 inches, with embossed paper seal at upper left and original green ribbon remnant, and an embossed British Revenue Stamp for 1 Pound and 10 Shillings on the middle left side of the document. The back has information relating to the ship this pass was written for, The "Brig Nancy" with a weight of 177 26/95 tons, Isaiah Banker, Master, with the ship cleared out of the Custom House of Philadelphia, 26th Jan. 1812". This rare wartime license, issued under authority of His Majesty's Principal Secretary of State, authorizes Messrs. Mackenzie and others to fit out a vessel to import a cargo of grain, meal, flour, or rice from any U.S. port into Lisbon, Portugal, during the War of 1812, without molestation from British ships or privateers. The document carries the bold signature of Lord Sidmouth (Henry Addington), Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1801–1804 and later Home Secretary. This license was part of Britain's system of selective trade permissions during the Napoleonic Wars and War of 1812, intended to control and tax neutral shipping while maintaining critical food supplies for the Peninsular campaign against Napoleon. Text references the 46th year of George III's reign, and is printed by Eyre and Strahan, His Majesty's Printers. Historical context Note: Such licences were controversial, as they effectively permitted trade with neutral nations (including the U.S., then officially at war with Britain) when it served strategic purposes. Lord Sidmouth was a key figure in maintaining Britain's war economy and maritime dominance during this period. Fold lines, light toning, and scattered foxing with a vertical split along one fold professionally stabilized. Seal embossed but incomplete. Ink remains dark and fully legible. Also includes a proof bookplate of the portrait of Lord Sidmouth, First time seen by cataloger. Shipping charges apply - weight 0.6 lbs. (Image) (Image2) (Image3) (Image4) (All Images)

600 spaceshipone ansari x prize imageSpaceShipOne Ansari X PRIZE Twice-Flown Cover Signed by Mike Melvill, Brian Binnie & Burt Rutan, Framed, Exceptional framed Ansari X PRIZE commemorative cover carried aboard SpaceShipOne on both qualifying flights that captured the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE in 2004. The cover bears Mojave, California cancellations dated September 29 and October 4, 2004, corresponding to the two historic flights, and is signed by pilot Mike Melvill, pilot Brian Binnie, and SpaceShipOne designer Burt Rutan. On September 29, 2004, Melvill piloted SpaceShipOne to approximately 102.9 kilometers, completing the first of the two required X PRIZE flights. Five days later, on October 4, Binnie flew the same privately developed spacecraft to approximately 112 kilometers, securing the Ansari X PRIZE for the Scaled Composites team. SpaceShipOne thereby became the first privately owned and operated spacecraft to exceed 100 kilometers twice within the required two-week period, a landmark achievement in the development of commercial human spaceflight. The accompanying printed X PRIZE Foundation presentation explicitly states that the cover was flown in space twice, first aboard SpaceShipOne X1 on September 29 and again aboard X2 on October 4, and identifies the signatures of Melvill, Binnie, and Rutan. The display is completed by four photographs relating to SpaceShipOne and the X PRIZE program and is professionally matted and framed as shown.Flown SpaceShipOne material is genuinely scarce. Contemporary documentation notes that relatively few flown objects were made available to the public, with certified SpaceShipOne artifacts signed by Rutan, Melvill, and Binnie attracting serious aerospace collectors. An outstanding artifact from one of the pivotal moments in modern commercial spaceflight, directly associated with both winning X PRIZE flights and signed by the spacecraft's designer and both pilots who completed them.
