201 o 8A image1851, 1¢ blue, type IIIa (Scott 8A), position 17L4, an astounding stamp with four clear to full margins showing off the Type characteristics in full detail in deep color on immaculate paper; both accompanying certificates note "pen line" or "manuscript penstroke" cancel which is, in all likelihood, a silent precancel created by the J.C. Ayers Company of Lowell, MA, who were heavy users of the stamp in their mailings of circulars (the rate being 1¢), Very Fine to Extremely Fine, a gorgeous stamp in its own right, plus a magnificent example of an early precancel, with 2017 P.F. and P.S.A.G. certificates, each graded 85.
