This is an early usage as ASCC notes that manuscript town marks for Manchester started in 1799, with a value of $500.00 for the earliest markings.; Light toning in the UL corner of the FL slightly affects the "M" of Manchester and the FL with some typical splitting for this type of paper, Fine and scarce, ex- Henry C. Beck.

2176   image[Virginia] Broadfields, April 27th, lightly written 1813 manuscript postmark of Broadfields Va (short lived PO, only open between 1800 and 1822, Helbock rarity 6) on a folded letter datelined "Westmoreland Co. Va. April 5, 1813" and addressed to "Mr. Horace Chase, Hanover N. Hampshire", matching "17" rate (for 150 to 300 miles). Contents are an Interesting letter which mentions "… ordering out the militia of this county to move to Lancaster County where the British are now committing some depredations. They have taken the small town of Urbana on the Rappahannock …".; cover with small insect/worm hole in the letter "C" of "CHASE" and a few other trivial flaws normal for a letter of this age, otherwise Fine.
