Alaska, 1928 (Apr 14), Wilkins Arctic Flight, Barrow - Spitzbergen, cover canceled Barrow, Apr 14, and signed by Wilkins, but not backstamped. Included is a copy of a letter from Wilkins to A.C. Roessler, stating that there was no Spitzbergen canceller available. So the Postmaster, who was also the manager of the Spitzbergen Radio station, known as Svalbard Radio, agreed to backstamp the cover with the station's handstamp. In the letter Wilkins also notes that the 96 covers carried were the only covers to receive the "Apr 14 1928 A.M." c.d.s., Very Fine.

Later Experimental Flights, 11 covers, seven are franked with US #C11 and 2¢, postmarked San Juan Oct 15 1928 and includes: San Juan to Havanna; Santiago; Key West; Miami; Santo Domingo; Port au Prince and NY, also Santo Domingo franking to Miami on the same day, Haiti October 16 1928, Port au Prince to Miami, then Cuba franked with Lindbergh stamps Nov 1, 1928 Santiago to New York and Nov 4, 1928 Havana to New York, Very Fine, an excellent selection of these difficult-to-locate flights.

Captain Rowe later made flights to St. Thomas and St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, The W.I.A.E. carried experimental mail from San Juan to Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince, on October 15-16, 1928. While not the first service between the points, the covers are extremely scarce. A large number of the existing covers from the services of the W.I.A.E. were lost in the tropical hurricane which hit San Juan in the early thirties. (Image)

Philippines, 1919 (April 4-5), Ruth Law First Aerial Mail Service, issued "To commemorate the first aerial mail service/in the Philippines/April 4 and 5, 1919"; local usage, with 2c Rizal tied by triangular "The champion explorer of the sky/Aerial Mail Service/Bureau of Posts/Philippine Islands/MISS RUTH LAW" violet handstamp; handstamp repeated on back, which shows Miss Law in pilot's outfit, appearing to sit on the edge of a wing; printed "The Aero Club of the Philippines" and "No. 605 A", with handstamp address of Harry Truby in purple; slight ink stain to top of card front, which detracts not a whit, Very Fine.
