9442   imageSouth Africa, Official Proclamation Postal Card, printed by the "Staatsdrukkerij te veld" (State Printing Office in the field) on a small press aboard the capital train at Machadodorp as an emergency issue of the "Government Gazette" declaring the capital at Machadodorp on the reverse of Transvaal ½d postal card uprated with ½d adhesive and favor cancelled with "Machadodorp, Z.A.R. / 7 Jun 00" postmark, vertical crease at right through the indicia and stamp, otherwise Very Fine; one of only a few used examples recorded; after the fall of Pretoria on 5 June, 1900 the Transvaal Republic tried to maintain authority over the unoccupied territory with its capital on a train, by 7 June it was parked at Machadodorp, until 14 August when it moved to Barberton, then Nelsprui on 30 August, on 12 Sept. President Krueger fled to Lourenco Marques.

9443   imageSouth Africa, Rhodesian Field Force, cover to Bulawayo from a trooper in the field countersigned by his commanding officer, franked with 1d rose (S.G. 77) paying the soldier's rate, cancelled when processed in Bulawayo on 13 May 1900 and backstamped the sale day, Very Fine and quite scarce; Rhodesian troops were used to retake and defend the Bulawayo-Mafeking railroad through Bechuanaland, to lift the Boer siege of Fort Tuli, and to defend Bulawayo from expected attacks.
