1947 (June 10; FDI for Ball Bay stamps) large-part parcel wrapper (folded to 225x129mm) to London with an illustrated First Day
Cover front used as the address label, red/white 'INSURED PARCEL' label with 'Postmaster-General's Department' crossed-out and 'TERRITORY OF NORFOLK ISLAND.' handstamp in violet added & noted as insured for "£50", endorsed "POSTAGE/PREPAID" in red
pencil overstruck with 'NORFOLK ISLAND/10JUN47AUST' cds, blue/white 'R' label with 'NEW SOUTH WALES' crossed-out and large oval 'R' in oval cachet in red (probably applied in transit), Brisbane transit backstamp of '18JL47', vertical fold clear of
the labels. A fascinating piece. This is a very unusual First Day Cover, the only Insured Parcel item and the only example of the amended insurance label we have seen from Norfolk Island. (Image1) (Image2)

1947 (July 10) surface cover to "Foxton/New Zealand" with Ball Bay 3d tied by largely superb strike of the WWII period
'RNZAF/10JL47/ E /NZAPO' cds, endorsed "missent" in magenta with 'TOKOMARU/12JL47/NZ' cds on both sides, overall soiling & minor spotting. With the enclosure headed "Norfolk Island/1 7 47" & signed by island photographer "H Spencer-Salt". Civilians
were permitted to use the NZ Air Force post office but full postage was required. The NZ cds indicates that the cover was flown so 5½d should have been paid & the cover should have been taxed. NZ APO 356 closed on 4.7.1948.

1947 (Dec 12) stampless airmail cover endorsed "Postage Prepaid", to Tasmania with 'NORFOLK ISLAND' cachet in violet on blank R
label, 'AMF SYDNEY RSI/23DE47/NSW-AUST' is indicative of the infrequency of flights from Norfolk, repaired tear clear of the R label; and 1949 (Oct 20) stampless cover to England endorsed "Air" & "1/6", central fold. Enigmas. C&B don't mention
periods when no stamps were available. In both cases, the postmaster may have accepted cash & not affixed stamps, but that would have been highly improper. See also Lot 474.

1952 social cover with '[cerberus]/SEMPER VIGILANS' (= always vigilant) in blue on the flap, endorsed "LT BROWN" at upper-right and
with 'HMA SHIP' cachet at lower-left, to Tasmania with Ball Bay 2½d & 3d optimistically paying for airmail tied by 'LORD HOWE ISLAND/3MR52/NSW' cds, minor defects. A very unusual cover. The stamps were valid only on Norfolk Island & probably should
have been marked as invalid & the cover taxed. However, the postmaster may have treated it as paquebot mail, even though Norfolk Island has never had separate membership of the UPU. HMAS Cerberus is the naval shore station on Westernport Bay,
Victoria. The sender probably acquired the envelope there. (Image1) (Image2)

social usage by an enthusiastic tourist, by air to NSW via New Zealand with 1960 Pictorials 8d Hibiscus tied by superb 'NORFOLK/16FE61/ISLAND' cds, tiny opening imperfections at right. Rare: the ACSC states "One commercially used example dated
