Original pre-WWII album of real photo PPCs most with hand-written captions on the negatives plus photographs of various sizes
featuring many elements of island life including people, wildlife, produce, homes, convict ruins, sport, whaling, the cable station, landscapes, etc, mostly affixed to the pages & many of the postcards with adhesive corners that can be at least
partly removed, part of the paper cover is missing. The quality of the photography & of the prints themselves is generally excellent, making this a highly desirable record of the times. Raoul Sunday ('Roy') Bell was born in 1882 on Raoul (Sunday)
Island in the Kermadecs. He moved to Norfolk Island in 1910 where he became a noted naturalist & ornithologist, also on Lord Howe Island. Bell was a Forces photographer during WWI & continued taking highly regarded photos after he returned to
Norfolk. His manuscript journals are held in the National Library in Canberra. Ex Roy Bell and Stephen Bradford.
