1915 (June 7) usage of Kangaroo 1d Postal Card with superb boxed 'PRISONER/OF/WAR/LETTER' cachet in violet (recorded by Gary Diffen
-.4.1915 to 24.7.1915; rated R) but with the stamp uncancelled & no camp censor marking, to Germany with message headed "German Concentration Camp/Liverpool 7.6.15" & signed "E Esche", GB POW censor cachet cancels the stamp indicium, crease at
lower-right. The message states "...Did you know that W was reported dead in Singapore...? I am glad he is alive & well...Kruger got the Iron Cross..." It's very surprising that the last comment wasn't obliterated by the censor. (Image1) (Image2)

1916 (late) ? usage of printed POW Envelope with 25mm 'FREE' indicium at upper-right, endorsed on the flap "Lorenz
Winkler.../Liverpool I Komp IV Messe" to a German bank in "Calcutta/Indien" with light but largely clear strike of the oval 'GERMAN CONCENTRATION CAMP/LIVERPOOL/C.../N.S.WALES' cachet (rated RR) & partial 'PASSED BY/CENSOR SD' cachet of Sydney both
in violet, on arrival redirected to "co Controller Hostelefarm [?]/WB" (= West Bengal), pinholes in the flap. Germans detained in Calcutta were sent to an internment camp at Darjeeling. Gary Diffen notes that all recorded examples of the oval cachet
are on undated mail. It helps that these Envelopes were introduced from -.5.1916. (Image1) (Image2)

1918 (Nov 18) OHMS envelope with largely very fine strike of the 'GERMAN CONCENTRATION CAMPS/ LIVERPOOL/No ......../N.S.WALES'
handstamp in violet at lower-right, to the Swiss Red Cross with Kangaroos Third Wmk 3d olive Die I punctured 'OS' (Cat $400 on cover) and KGV ½d green punctured 'OS' tied by 'LIVERPOOL/NSW' cds cancel, 'Civils/["M.B, 4901"]' partially-rouletted
black/blue label with manuscript in red ink affixed at lower-left probably in Switzerland, minor blemishes. The sending would have contained an advice as to the whereabouts of an internee, not a POW, as confirmed by the 'Civils' label. The rate was
apparently a special 3d tariff for such sendings, plus ½d War Tax (introduced 28.10.1918); compare Lot 4801 above. (Image1) (Image2)
