1964 complete 'WOOL SAMPLE/NO COMMERCIAL VALUE' parcel label to a Yorkshire mill & endorsed "1st Class Air Mail" with rare franking
of 5/- Cattle & £2 Arms (under-catalogued with other stamps on cover at $1500) tied by light 'ROYAL EXCHANGE/28MR64/NSW-AUST' cds, minor blemishes. An extraordinary usage. The rate was 2/3d per ½oz x11 = 297d = £1/4/9d with a 3d convenience
overpayment. Wool samples would normally have been sent by sea or at the concessional 'Other Articles' airmail rate of 3/- per 2oz, at which tariff this item would have cost only 9/-. (Image1) (Image2)

1969 (Aug 30) registered double-rate airmail cover to Czechoslovakia under Russian Occupation, with scarce franking of Captain Cook
75c + 10c Fish (surface scrape) tied by Melbourne GPO cds, blue/white R label & Sydney transit backstamp, Czech small #24 censor (or Customs?) cachet in green & 'BEZ CLA' (= Duty Free) handstamp in violet both on the face, minor wrinkling. The Zone 5
airmail rate was 30c x2 plus 25c registration. Because of moderate reforms introduced by the government of Alexander Dubcek, on 20.8.1968 Soviet forces invaded Czechoslovakia and imposed harsh measures. The purging of reformers lasted until 1971.

1901 VISIT OF THE DUKE & DUCHESS OF YORK: 1901 Queensland 1d Postal Card ('Haystacks...') to Major-General de Winton in London with
chatty personal message headed "Brisbane May 23rd 1901" in the hand of the Duke of York and signed by him simply "G", characteristic aging of this low-grade card-stock. The rate should have been 1½d but perhaps no-one had the temerity to point this
out to the future King. (Image1)
