1930 (June) NCR of Australia, Sydney large-format (304x152mm) envelope front with pre-printed The National Cash Register Co,
Dayton, Ohio, USA address and private 'PER U.S.A. AIR MAIL' cachets in violet, posted directly onto ship at Sydney with Kangaroos Small Multiple Wmk 1/- blue-green strip of 3 (one unit with minor faults) and KGV 1½d red Die II & 3d blue Die II tied
in transit by San Francisco wavy-line roller cancel with 'SAN FRANCISCO/JUN26/CALIF./1930' duplex cancel alongside, minor blemishes & small edge bends. The rate was four-times 3d per 1oz foreign letter rate plus seven-times 4d per ½oz internal US
airmail surcharge, with a ½d convenience overpayment, but apparently no late fee component.
Prior to the commencement of the PanAm Hong Kong-USA Clipper airmail service in April 1937 there was no 'all-the-way' airmail service from Australia to America. Mail could be accelerated either by being sent airmail to England, by ship across the
Atlantic to New York plus US internal airmail, or by being sent from Sydney by ship across the Pacific to San Francisco plus US internal airmail. The surcharge for internal US airmail was 4d per ½oz, increased to 7d per ½oz in 1934. (Image1) (Image2)

tied in transit by 'WELLINGTON/NZ/ 16JL30/LOOSE LETTERS' cds cancels, endorsed "Rec'd 7/7/30" in pencil at upper-left, minor bends not affecting the adhesives. The rate was double 3d per 1oz foreign letter rate plus five-times 4d per ½oz internal US
airmail surcharge, plus 1d late fee. In 1922, the late fee on overseas mail was reduced from one additional rate of postage to 1d (2d for registered items from 1928). (Image1) (Image2)
