1918-25 KGV Sideface Scenic Issues 1½d red on grey mottled card (cream inside) with 'HOBART, FROM THE BAY' (navy warship & yacht)
view ACSC LC56(63), used to Marrickville, NSW with lengthy personal message and Tamworth, NSW 'OC 2 1924' machine cancel, a couple of minor aging marks, under-catalogued at $800. The issue on this stock is rare: the ACSC notes that only eight cards
are recorded, and that only two views are known; six cards have the 'River Yarra Victoria' view, but only two - "one used and one unused" of this view are recorded. Absent from John Sinfield's extensive collection; his philatelically used 'River
Yarra' card sold at our auction of 3.3.2019 for $345 (Sale 233 Lot 2304). (Image1) (Image2)

1918-25 KGV Sideface Scenic Issues 1½d red on off-white card with 'BURRINJUCK DAM' (in flood) view ACSC LC57(22), used to furniture
warehouse Booth & Coy in Newcastle without message (believed to have contained a cheque or money order payment) with 'WARATAH/MY6/1925/NSW' cds cancel, a couple of minor bends & blemishes, under-catalogued at $2500. One of the rarest & most
sought-after of all the views, being a substitution for 'THE GILDEROY RANGES' made in April/May 1925, only months before the scenic issues were discontinued. Only three examples are recorded, all used in NSW in mid-1925, and this believed to be the
finest known. Ex John Sinfield: sold at our auction of 19.5.2018 for $4720 (Sale 227 Lot 254). (Image1) (Image2)

The rate was 3d up to 1oz foreign letter with a ½d convenience over-payment. Note that the domestic letter rate had increased from 1½d to 2d on 4.8.1930, which necessitated the overprint on the adhesive. (Image1) (Image2)

1925-38 KGV Sideface 1½d red Perf 11¾ ACSC LC60, used to France with typed message from leading Stamp Dealer 'W Brett & Coy'
[Brettschneider] offering Australian postal stationery and 'business card' label at base, KGV 1½d green just tied by Melbourne '25MAR27' machine cancel and then heavily struck with 'SHIP MAIL ROOM' datestamp obliterating all value indicia, taxed with
Melbourne 'T/10c' octagonal cachet (the 'T' with two horizontal cuts) and on arrival Franch Postage Dues 50c maroon pair affixed tied by Paris cds, a couple of minor blemishes. The rate was 3d up to 1oz foreign letter, and the item was fully paid. It
seems clear that the postal clerk thought the added stamp was a Penny green, and charged 10 centimes for double the perceived ½d deficiency.

1919-22 KGV 'Star' without 'POSTAGE' 1½d brown ACSC LCS4 on blue-grey stock with printed return address for 'Messrs W.H. Burford &

the base, Cat $1500. Rare. The ACSC does not make it clear that its pricing is for a front only, but considering that other contemporary complete items are priced at $3000 each, this does seem to be the obvious conclusion. Almost identical to the
item that sold at our auction of 24.11.2018 for $738 (Sale 231 Lot 238). (Image1) (Image2)

1916 KGV Sideface 1d red Second Issue with 'A.I.F., ABROAD' at Base on pale grey unsurfaced stock ACSC LCM2, to "Private Walter
Page, 18th R/A Company, Fourth Battalion" with lengthy message inside including "Did you get the two packages we sent? Did you get the Treasury Bank Note we sent in a Registered Letter? ..." and 'AUBURN/14JA17/NSW' cds, light soiling, small surface
abrasion at lower-left & minor repaired tear on the reverse, grossly under-catalogued at $2000. Private Page was killed in battle in France later in 1917. The ACSC states that "Only two used examples are recorded", and that no used examples of the
earlier 'AUSTRALIAN IMPERIAL FORCE' at Base Letter Card are known. More than 83,000 of the two issues combined were prepared, so it is remarkable that more than 100 years later only two should be known to have survived. Ex Tony Finlayson: sold at our
