thank you for the fair criticism of the King George V 1d stamp ... it was engraved in this City by an engraver who was originally with De La Rue & Co London [Samuel Reading] but he has passed the prime of his life and has not been successful in
'catching' the right expression ...", and goes on to say "... The letter cards are printed in sheets of 12, there are two views from each of the federated States on the sheet similar to the one on this ...", a few minor blemishes, plus a photograph
(86x84mm) of Samuel Reading and his wife with pencilled note "Only three copies in existence"on the reverse, Ex John Sinfield. Although Cooke's statement about 12-on printing may at first seem to contradict the ACSC's assertion that the first
printing was only 9-on, by the time Cooke was writing this letter the second printing - which was 12-on - was already well underway. (2 items)

1911-12 KGV Fullface Setting 2A (Admonition First Line ends 'to'; Comma after 'Australia') 1d on greyish/greenish card ACSC L8
all-different views in various colours being an almost-complete 'set' of the views available in these printings (ex 'BOTANIC GARDENS/BRISBANE, Q.', 'PINEAPPLES/Q.' and 'SHEEP STATION/WIMMERA, S.A.'; the latter offered as Lot 4160 below), the 'SYDNEY
HARBOUR/N.S.W.' a red-violet/violet-grey bicolour, all unused except 'BUSH HUT/VIC.' used with margins intact, some mostly minor blemishes but generally fine to very fine, Cat $3000+.
We made the point when offering John Sinfield's Letter Cards that the cards from the August 1911 printing (ACSC LC8 on "grey unsurfaced card") and from the September 1911 printing (ACSC LC10 Setting 2A with Comma after 'AUSTRALIA' on "grey surfaced
card") cannot be adequately differentiated, and should be treated as essentially the same issue. There is certainly some minor difference in both the thickness & texture of the stock across these cards that supports the suggestion that different
stocks were supplied in this period. The technical aspects of the two issues are not sufficiently nor consistently different to justify the division. In our opinion, the Setting 2A cards listed under LC10 should be amalgamated with the LC8 listing
(noting that there are only one or two views in each listing that do not appear in the other, and the pricing is largely identical). This is how we have presented them here.
