reverse, used 1939 to the Netherlands with 'CANBERRA/ 10AU39/ACT-AUST' cds cancel, redirected on arrival to Laan with very fine 'HEEMSTEDE/13.X.../1939' cds on the face, a few minor bends & blemishes, Cat $2000. This card was specifically produced to
meet the 2d foreign postcard rate, which was effectively increased to 2½d each with the introduction of the ½d War Tax on 1.10.1941. Rare: the ACSC states that "Three used examples are recorded", all for this user, this being the earliest recorded

cachet in violet on the face, very fine, Cat $3000. The ACSC states that only one other example, which is unused, has been recorded. A marvellous item for collectors of a hospital, medical or military theme or of redirected mail. Ex John Sinfield:
