COCOS ISLANDS POSTAL AGENCY: 1951 (June) QANTAS return flight Cocos Islands-Australia AAMC 1273c (through to United States) with
Aboriginal Art 2/- Crocodile cancelled on arrival at Sydney, superb strike of the double-circle 'C.& W.LTD/11JUN51/ COCOS' cds tying type-written 'PER QANTAS/CATALINA/VH-EBA' black/blue label to the reverse, makeshift typewritten rouletted airmail
label 'R COCOS/0019' on the face, a few very minor blemishes. Kim Dwyer's similar cover - opened-out for display - sold for $3450 at our auction of 24.6.2006 (Sale 122 Lot 1002) and Colin Riddell's cover sold for $3475. Twenty covers were prepared by
ER Leigh-Parkin, who also created the labels & 'Lightning Flash' cachet on the face, and applied his personal seal to wax on the flap. Only eight of those covers were carried on the return flight. Ex Dr William Wells. (Image1) (Image2)

1911 KGV Fullface 1d red 'ADDRESS ONLY TO BE WRITTEN ON THIS SIDE' admonition semi-surfaced on the reverse ACSC P1, used to Unley,
SA with short non-philatelic message and largely very fine 'EUDUNDA/AP 1/11/S.A' squared-circle, small edge faults at left & minor blemishes. The ACSC states "There was no official date of issue. Ewen's Weekly Stamp News records the date of issue as
7 April 1911 (in Victoria), however an example is recorded with a message dated 31 March 1911 and cancelled ... the next day" [this item]. It is believed that the premature usage was due to dwindling stocks of South Australian Postal Cards. This is
the earliest recorded date of use for any item of Commonwealth of Australia Postal Stationery. (Image1) (Image2)
