1954 (Jan) airmail cover to Northamptonshire UK with part '[TAI]PING' cds & the stamp/s washed-off, resealed with British 'Found
open or damaged/...' labels and superb 'DAMAGED BY SEAWATER/COMET MAIL' cachet in rosine, readdressed within England but with 'Rebut/Inconnu' and '.../RETURN TO SENDER' cachets in violet, endorsed "Return/to/Perak" in blue pencil. The BOAC flight
departed Rome 10.1.1954, suffered a mid-air disintegration & crashed into the sea near Elba, killing all 35 on board. This was the second such 'Comet' incident in 8 months. It took a third such incident, in April 1954, before the fleet was grounded.
