1820 (March 21) entire letter to Bath endorsed "Single Sheet" with Edinburgh octagonal datestamp in red on the face and largely
very fine strike of the rare 'TOO LATE B[Y]/CARLISLE' boxed handstamp in red presumably indicating that the item was received after the Carlisle coach had departed, Scottish 'Add'l/½' wheel tax boxed cachet on the face and Bath ' B /24MT24/1820'
arrival backstamp, originally rated "1/2"[d] for 400-500 miles but this was amended to "1/3"[d] for 500-600 miles, possibly due to the additional distance required after missing the coach, light filing folds & minor soiling at the edges clear of the
markings. Graham Hayward states that he found references to only three examples of this marking being recorded, two in black & one in red.

1823 (July 21) entire letter to London rated "2/2"[d] on the face with 'Addl/½'[d] wheel tax boxed handstamp alongside, very fine
'LEITH/JUL 21 A/1823' despatch cds on the reverse alongside very fine to superb complete strike of 'LEITH/TOO LATE' large boxed handstamp in black, London '25JY25/1823' arrival cds in red below, a couple of very minor blemishes. Graham Hayward states
this was the only type of Too Late marking recorded by Auckland as used at Leith, and that it was struck in black in 1823 only, and thereafter in blue/green to 1838. (Image1) (Image2)
