Surface-Printed Large Uncoloured Corner Letters 10d red-brown solo (SG 112; Cat £850 on cover) tied by superb London 'SW/15' duplex cancel, Melbourne 'DC.22/69' arrival backstamp, a couple of minor blemishes mostly on the reverse. The 10d per ½oz
ship letter rate to Australia via France was introduced in 1867; due to the Franco-Prussian War, in 1870 the route was changed to via Brindisi and the rate was reduced to 9d per ½oz. Ex Gilbert Wheat; sold in 2009 for £276. (Image1) (Image2)
