French 'ANGL/AMB CALAIS' TPO transit cds on the face and arrival backstamp, light horizontal file fold clear of the adhesives. The rate was quadruple 4d per ¼oz letter plus 6d late fee applied from 7pm to 7.30pm. Graham Hayward states that this late
fee was only available at the Chief Office, St Martins le Grand, and that it was often paid in cash, leaving no indication that it had been paid; the 6d late fee was infrequently paid, and Parmenter states that the higher fees between 4d and 1/- make

Line monthly service commenced in 1856 sailing to Quebec in summer and Portland in winter. The 'Anglo-Saxon' was wrecked off Newfoundland in 1863.

light soiling. The rate was double 4d per ¼oz letter plus 1d late fee applied from 6pm to 7pm. The 9d was issued primarily to pay ship mail rates to Australia, India & Brazil, and solo usage on other mail is scarce. Gilbert Wheat's example to Denmark
- described as "the only one to a European destination in the Wheat collection" - sold in 2009 for £437 (when catalogued at £750 on cover).
