1886-96 New Designs V/Crown Watermark '33' 1/6d approved Allegorical design die proof in orange (the second issued colour) on
thick ungummed unwatermarked paper, Line Perf 12½. The only recorded example. Ex Ronald Harrison and Max Watson. A number of such proofs were acquired in the 1980s by Max Watson directly from the family of Ronald Harrison. At the time, they were
thought to be plate proofs. However, the fact that in almost every case only one example has been recorded, has resulted in the conclusion that they are all die proofs that were line-perforated by hand. They were not known to Geoff Kellow, at the
time his book was published in 1990. (Image1) (Image2)

1901-10 QV 'POSTAGE' V/Crown 1½d brown/yellow SG 386b with 'THREE HALFPENCE' Almost Completely (95%) Omitted ACSC V55c, grossly
undercatalogued at $750. A truly dramatic error. Ex Don Davies: sold at our auction of 2.8.2013 for $4890, six times the current (2023) catalogue value (Sale 183 Lot 669). Illustrated in the ACSC, which states "A mint pair (now divided)...showing the
value almost omitted from the first stamp and totally omitted from the second...This was caused by some foreign matter..." We are uncomfortable with this explanation. The current stamp clearly shows a broken line of printing-ink across the void, as
does the now detached defective unit, that also sold at our auction of 2.8.2013, for $350 (Sale 183 Lot 668). This stray ink is difficult to explain if the void was caused by foreign matter. It appears to us that several clichés suffered catastrophic
damage during the printing, and would have been substituted. Note that the ACSC does not state that the second unit is badly damaged.
