1882-84 QV Bell & Naish Designs V/Crown Watermark '33' 1d green Perf 12½ as SG 208 but Compound Perf 13x12½ block of 4, light
Echuca '40' duplex of SE27/83, minor central perf re-inforcing, a few uneven perfs. Unlisted by Gibbons. Geoff Kellow states at page 196 that "Perforation was almost exclusively by the comb perf 12½ machines. The exception is a small quantity single
line perf 12". RPSV Certificate (2024).
Geoff Kellow does not record the use of any Perf 13 machine after 1880, stating at page 25 that "after 1880 up to Federation the situation was fairly simple - three comb machines gauging 12¼-12½ x 12¼-12¾ for the normal-size stamps, and two single
line machines gauging 12¼-12½ for the large format stamps" (all of which Gibbons list as Perf 12½). However, the paper on which this stamp is printed did not arrive in Melbourne until July 1882, and the horizontal rows here are Perf 13 exactly. (Image1) (Image2)

1884-96 Large Stamp Duty Validated for Postage Typographed Perf 12½ 10/- grey-green SG 272a & £2 blue SG 276a horizontal pair plus
QV Naish 4d tied to linen-backed piece by 'REGISTERED/AP6/98/MELBOURNE' cds, minor blemishes, Cat £560+ for CTO. An unrecognised postally used rarity. Ex Max Watson: sold at our auction of 3.4.2017 for $2315 (Sale 220 Lot 76).
The Gibbons prices for "used" denominations above 5/- are all for CTO stamps from presentation/collectors' sets. Such stamps are regularly encountered. The Two Pounds is the highest such value that has been recorded postally used, and this is the
only multiple. We have recorded only three other postally used examples of SG 276/a. Examples are known to have been used on gold packets out of Jamieson, Gaffneys Creek or Omeo. It must be stressed that not a single genuine postally used example of
the £1/5/-, £1/10/-, 35/-, nor any value above £2 has been recorded. (Image1) (Image2)
