ENVELOPES: 1898 QV Waterlow scenic issue "MOUNT WELLINGTON IN WINTER, FROM HUON ROAD HOBART" proof in black on a folded envelope
(ungummed flaps that allow for it to be opened-out for display) with the 2d green Stamp Omitted Groom & Shatten E2.5P, very fine. Unique: no other proof material for this issue has been recorded. Ex Owen Ingles, Gene Tinsley and Malcolm Groom. A
delightful item. One of the most important, and attractive, postal stationery proofs of any of the Australian Colonies. Sold at our auction of 22.4.2006 for $6115 (Sale 121 Lot 387). Groom & Shatten state "...The envelope is printed upside down". In
fact, the opposing flaps are identical, rendering that statement irrelevant. (Image1) (Image2)
