1867-70 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½xRouletted 'TEN PENCE' in Blue on 9d yellow Printed on Both Sides SG 59a with the original
impression on the 'reverse' orientated upright relative to the 'face', two strikes of GPO cds of 'OC13/69', Cat £1500. Rare & underrated. Sold at a Sydney auction in 2015 for $2330. Superior to Harry Lower's and Michael Blake's examples - both with
separation issues - that sold for $1320 (Sale 128 Lot 441) & $1515 (Sale 188 Lot 1216) respectively. And the original impression is clearer than on the previous lot.
The truly remarkable aspect of this stamp is that, the surcharge being on the front only, the reverse is a 9d yellow which, of course, was never issued. (Image1)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 1d deep yellow-green horizontal pair Imperf Vertically Between the Units and at Right SG 65a,
repaired corner perf at lower-left otherwise superb, very fine '46' cancel of Hahndorf, Cat £9500. One of the major errors of South Australia. Ex Colonel Harry Napier and Gary Diffen: sold for £5400. RPSL Certificate (1965) shows the pair with
undamaged lower-left corner. The repair is evident in the 2020 Spink catalogue but was not mentioned in the description. Noted on the reverse of the certificate as "Ex Brown" (which one?). Absent from most of the major collections including of Harry
Lower, Michael Blake and Don Pearce. (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ '3-PENCE' on 4d deep ultramarine as SG 67 but Rouletted on All Sides, large-part
straight-line '[T]OO-LAT[E]' handstamp in bright red. An extremely rare stamp that Gibbons used to list as SG 61b, Cat £750, but which has been deleted from recent editions. Ex Lt-Col Redman who commented on it in 'The Philatelist' (1948) and Harry
Lower: sold for $4890 (Sale 128 Lot 449). RPSV Certificate (2007) states "that the stamp is genuine". We respectfully request Gibbons to reinstate the entry for SG 61b, with a price of at least £2500. (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 4d deep ultramarine with '3-PENCE' in Black Surcharge Omitted SG 68c, extremely well-centred,
characteristic uneven perfs, minor light diagonal crease at upper-left that does not affect the very fine facial appearance, neat Adelaide duplex bars cancel, Cat £55,000. Ex 'Isleham' (1987 Lot 2469). BPA Certificate (1987) states "is genuine.
Creased", which is harsh. Dr Don Pearce's example with minor separation faults sold for $44,840 (Sale 249 Lot 1143). Gary Diffen's very fine example sold in 2020 for £44,000.
The 4d with Surcharge Omitted is the great rarity of South Australia. Only three unused examples (one in the Royal Collection) and eleven used examples - four in institutions - have been recorded: see Geoff Kellow's illustrated census in 'Sydney
Views' (Nov 2011), where this stamp is listed as 'U5'. That leaves only two unused & seven used examples potentially available to collectors. This makes it significantly rarer than Western Australia's fabled 4d Swan with Inverted Frame, Cat £180,000.
To quote Geoff Kellow: "If the Inverted Frame is Australia's classic & most famous stamp error, then following close behind is the South Australia '3-PENCE' on 4d with the Surcharge Omitted...[which] created the 4d ultramarine Error of Colour." (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 6d bright pale blue as SG 72 but Imperforate on All Sides, margins good to very large with a
chunk of the adjoining unit below, light GPO cds of AU10/76. An enigma. This may be from a grossly misperforated sheet but it is of sufficient size to conclude that it is from an imperf or partly imperf sheet. Sold at a Sydney auction in 2007 for
$442. (Image1) (Image2)

cut-into at left, ironed-out horizontal crease that doesn't impact the facial appearance, two small stains, circle-in-bars cancel of the GPO, Cat £5500. Ex Henry Frenkle and Gary Diffen: sold for £3120, where noted as being the finer of only two
recorded examples. RPSL Certificate (1969), now lost. Absent from most of the major collections including of Harry Lower, Michael Blake and Don Pearce. (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 9d bright mauve Printed on Both Sides SG 76a, the original impression on the 'reverse' is
upright relative to the face, unframed 'PORT ADELAIDE/73/OC0-/ 5 /S A' cds, Cat £1000. Ex Don Pearce: sold for $1075 (Sale 249 Lot 1158).
Usage at the GPO between September & November 1873, and at Port Adelaide between October & November 1873, coupled with the difference in the quality of the original printings, the latter being far superior, indicates that at least two sheets were
affected. (Image1)

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 9d bright mauve Printed on Both Sides SG 76a, the original impression on the 'reverse' is
upright relative to the face, unframed 'PORT ADELAIDE/73/OC10/ A /S A' cds, minor shallow thins, Cat £1000. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2018). Remarkably, both impressions are unusually well-centred, making this a very desirable example.

1868-79 QV Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ Emergency Issue on Crown/SA Paper 'TEN PENCE' in Blue on 9d yellow SG 78a with the Watermark
Reversed, perfs trimmed at top & partly at base still a very attractive example, part-Port Adelaide cds of NO11/68, Cat £2000. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2002). Absent from 'Besancon'. Harry Lower's, Michael Blake's and Don Pearce's examples sold
for $2990 (Sale 128 Lot 457), $2445 (Sale 188 Lot 1245) and $2275 (Sale 249 Lot 1193) respectively.
A rare stamp that is seriously underrated, in part because it is listed by Gibbons under the Large Star Watermark issue. Often characterised as an 'error', in the catalogue for the John Griffiths' sale, it was noted that this was a trial printing on
the paper to be used for the new De La Rue 2d SG 152, issued in August 1868. We consider that it was either a trial printing or an emergency printing perhaps inadvertently on the new paper, and expect that all examples have the watermark reversed. (Image1) (Image2)

the paper...is the norm". (Image1)
