at Right ACSC Q11ba, marginal watermark '[M]ADE IN EN[GLAND]' (not previously noted by us), large-part gum, Cat $1800+ for two pairs. Ex Ric Slade-Slade and Bernie Manning: sold for $1280 (Sale 146 Lot 1230). Although the Cowan paper was manufactured
in Scotland, the watermark dandy-roll was made in England. Very few such marginal inscriptions have been recorded. The rarity of such pieces is reinforced by Alan Griffiths's statement "There are no marginal inscriptions or marks": see 'Stamp
