1861-64 Perf 14 to 15½ 8d yellow-brown (a really unusual shade) SG 32a, unused, Cat £1600. Gibbons list this shade only for the
stamps with Rough Perfs. However, our familiarity with the similarly perforated Perkins Bacon stamps of Western Australia, leaves us in no doubt that this stamp is more properly characterised as having Intermediate Perfs, which Gibbons used to list
separately. (Image1)

6d both with Double Perfs and ½d with Marginal Wmk 'W'; generally of fine facial appearance but the condition is very mixed, Cat £17,000+. Offered strictly "as is" and personal inspection is strongly recommended.
There are two fundamental challenges with these issues. The first is identifying the correct watermark, which is often problematic. The other is deciding whether a stamp has clean-cut or rough perforations, which is quite subjective. Our assessment
is that even the 'roughest' of the Ceylon perfs are more correctly termed 'intermediate'. If you want to see 'rough' perfs of the period, look at the last Perkins Bacon issue for Western Australia. There, 'clean-cut', 'intermediate' and 'rough' perfs
are all listed, as used to be the case for Ceylon. For the Swans, the 'rough' perfs are so poorly-incised that stamps often had to be cut from the sheet to prevent major separation faults. It has not been practical for us to check all the watermarks
but we certainly noted stamps that we believe were wrongly identified. As for the perfs, this really is a matter for personal assessment.
