pair & 20c tied by '.../BACK BAY ANNEX' cancels, Hong Kong transit backstamp of 27JU/40 & Censor #9 cachet in green on the face. This cover was diverted to China National Airways and flown via Chungking "Over the Hump" to Rangoon after three BOAC
services HK-Bangkok had been cancelled due to the Japanese pressuring the French in Indo-China to not allow Allied flights via their airspace.

Devizes" England with 'BY AIR MAIL' blue/green etiquette (emergency printing) and QE 1d brown & Kangaroos 2/- maroon tied by light Brisbane cds, very fine strike of the 'PRIVILEGED MAIL/GOVERNOR OF QUEENSLAND/per ["AV Stark Lt Col"]' boxed cachet in
violet at lower-left (Little H1-5a), a couple of minor blemishes. The marking indicated 'exempt from censorship'; nevertheless a standard 'PASSED/BY/CENSOR' h/s has been applied, although the envelope was not opened. Sir John Goodwin had served as

1942 & 1943 commercial airmail covers from the Canal Zone to Sydney or Melbourne at 85c rate with different airmail frankings, the
first from 'BALBOA', the other from 'ANCON' with 15c only cancelled OCT21 & 'Returned for Additional Postage' handstamp with 10c & 30c x2 cancelled the next day, minor imperfections. A rare duo. It is believed that the mails were flown to Hawaii by
the US Army Air Service, then forwarded by sea.

with Melbourne resealing label & cachet, Darwin seven-bar jusqu'a handstamp in red partly across the stamp, re-directed on arrival with Stockholm 'STORA ESSINGEN/1.9.45/LBR' transit backstamp to "Storby Eckero, Aland Finland" and censored again with
Finnish 'TARKASTETTU GRANSKA' resealing lable tied by triple-ring cachet, a couple of minor edge faults. Storby is the main town on Eckero island, in the westernmost part of Aland, closest to Sweden. Civilian airmail services to Europe were not
re-instated until early September 1945. Prior to this, items were carried by airmail within Australia and then diverted to surface transportation.
