Merowi (2): 'MERAWI/[star & crescent]/----96' (date error) three of four fine strikes of the worn cds tying scarce franking of
Overprints 1m x5 to internal native cover, large-part 'HALFA/25 VIII 97/...' arrival backstamp, very minor blemishes. PO 1897. The cds is of the 1870s-pattern, indicating that there was an earlier office of this name. The obvious wear to the device,
and the year '96' apparently being rusted in place, support this suggestion. On most strikes the day and/or month slugs are missing. See also Lot 2655. (Image1) (Image2)
