Qala'en Nahl: 'QALAT EN NAKHL/9NO28' (apparently an inscriptional error) single-ring skeleton relief superb strike (with breaks in
the frame) on '8 MILLIEMES' on 4m Postal Card to Cheshire. Seasonal PO 1911. Unrecorded by Proud, and three years earlier than his ERD for the first permanent cds. The message states "...rather charming out of the way spot called Galaa il Nahl. So
backward that I have found this obsolete pc..." [= postcard]. Highlights the issues with Anglicising the Arabic names. (Image1) (Image2)

Sabderat: 'SABDERAT/...' cds light but obvious strike on 4m (Proud rated 600pts). TO 9.3.1910; PO ? ; closed circa 1922. Sabderat
was in NW Ethiopia, 28km east of Kassala. The office was essentially a TO but also an exchange office for mails between Eritrea & Sudan. It is now within Eritrea. See also Lot 2983. (Image1) (Image2)

similar superb strike of 22.I.03 on Overprinted 5m Egyptian Postal Card to GB. PO 1900 2km N of Wadi Halfa; with which it was amalgamated in 1903. Proud lists only one cds but there were definitely two, the second with a clearly raised 'T' in

Tonj (1): 'TONJ/6.X.907/...' two very fine to superb strikes on Overprinted 1pi Envelope (repaired opening tears) endorsed
"Meridi/10.IX.07" at lower-right, to London, very fine Khartoum backstamp of 14.XI.907. PO 26.4.1905 when Runner Mail service extended from Meshra-el-Rek; closed circa 1923. Meridi, in the far south 250km SSE of Tonj, near the Belgian Congo border,
had no PO. The cover took 26 days to reach Tonj, and another 39 days to reach Khartoum. Most of the 140km between Tonj & Mesha-el-Rek is swampland.
