2872 c image1942 (May) Belgian Congo cover with '2.50' on Photogravure 2fr40c National Park to "Bunia Kilo Gold Fields" with 'ELISABETHVILLE/12-5-42' backstamp & straightline 'Passé Censure ELISABETHVILLE' on the face, 'BUNIA/18-5-42/POSTES' b/s & same of 18-5 on the face, several redirections & the reverse with posthorn cds of 'IRUMU' (18-5-42), 'ABA' (20-5 & 26-5), 'JUBA/23-JUN42' (Sudan; where triangle censor No 13 struck on the face), 'NIZI' (29-6 and 13.7) and 'IRUMU' again (15.7) where the letter was apparently delivered, minor blemishes. A marvellous journey. Bunia is in the far north-east of the Congo, close to  Lake Albert & Uganda. It is renowned for gold, cobalt, and tribal violence. (Image1) (Image2)
