979 c imageLady Julia Percy Island: manuscript "Camp McCoy/Lady Julia/Percy Is/Bass Str/14-2-36" in black ink on the left-hand unit of a KGV 2d red horizontal pair both tied by largely very fine 'PORT FAIRY/14FE36/VIC' cds on cover to Melbourne enclosing a letter on The McCoy Society letterhead to "Dear Uncle Barney ... I've had bad luck with my cameras ... Bert", a few minor aging marks. Lady Julia Percy Island lies 21km SW of Port Fairy. In the early 19th Century it was a sealing base and later a guano mine. Melbourne University's McCoy Society conducted an ecological study of the island between Jan-Feb 1936. A similar item sold at another Melbourne auction on 6.3.2023 for $719.
