421 c image1960 (circa) large piece to a ship's passenger at Fremantle with 2d pair + 2/6d Aborigine tied by indistinct 'DOUBLE BAY' (NSW) cds, redirected to France endorsed "2nd Class Air Mail" with 2d + 2/- Flower x3 + 5/- Arms affixed & tied by poor Fremantle cds. The rate is problematic. The lowest domestic Zone 4 parcel rate was 4/-. The domestic Merchandise rate was 5d up to 4oz + 3d for each successive 4oz: 2/10d = 34d, which doesn't rate-out. To France, 2nd Class air was 3/- per 2oz, which also doesn't rate-out. However, the airmail parcel rate up to 8oz was 14/-, which is the total postage here. Curious. (Image1) (Image2)

429 c image1965 (May 13) Navigators 10/- Flinders on Cream Paper, £1 Bass on White Paper and £2 King block of 8 (4x2, one with a small fault at the base) tied to company cover endorsed "£17.10.0" by 'GRANVILLE/13MY65/ NSW-AUST' cds, repaired back-flap. An exceedingly rare and truly extraordinary item, that was for payment for Business Reply mail at the rate of 5d x700 + 1d fee x700. We don't know of even an off-cover used block of 6, let alone a block of 8, of the £2. Ex Andrew Tan: sold at our auction of 1.9.2018 for $34,220. At the time of that sale, the £2 was unrecorded in the ACSC on cover, and unpriced thus. In the 2024 QEII edition, it is now priced at $7500 for a single on cover in combination with other stamps. NB: the Navigator 10/- & £1 were issued 26.2.1964 & the £2 on 26.8.1964. They were thus on issue for less than two years before being replaced by the Decimal $1 $2 & $4 on 14.2.1966. By comparison, the Arms 10/- £1 & £2 were issued between 3.10.1949 & 16.1.1950 and remained on sale for 16+ years. The £2 Arms is a rare stamp on any type of postal article but the £2 Navigator is like the proverbial hen's teeth. Rod Perry stated that only one other item franked with the £2 Navigator had been recorded. That item has a £2 pair in combination with other stamps on a Business Reply envelope. Estimate AU$15,000

430 c image1965 (Aug 26) plain wrapper to London with Welded Products Ltd airmail label, rare franking of Navigators £1 Bass on White Paper (?) + Bird 2/- Whistler tied by 'REVESBY/NSW-AUST' cds, roughly slit-open towards the base. Ex Rodney Perry and Andrew Tan. NB: the £1 Bass on Cream Paper was issued 26.2.1964 & the White Paper version on 16.11.1964. They were thus on issue for less than two years before being replaced by the $2 Bass issued 14.2.1966. Compare this with the 16 year lifespan of the £1 Arms, itself a very scarce stamp on cover, and you can appreciate why the £1 Bass is rare on cover. The ACSC prices both papers at $1250 on cover with other stamps, & $5000 for a solo franking. (Image1)
