3480 = image1947 (June 10) large-part parcel wrapper (225x125mm) to "Southern Stamp Service" London with an illustrated First Day Cover front used as the address label, Australian 'INSURED PARCEL' label with 'Postmaster-General's Department' crossed out and replaced with 'TERRITORY OF NORFOLK ISLAND.' handstamp in violet, endorsed "POSTAGE PREPAID" in red pencil with a light but clear strike of the 'NORFOLK ISLAND/AUST' (3-letter month) cds, blue/white 'R' label with 'NEW SOUTH WALES' crossed-out and large oval 'R' in oval cachet in red (probably applied in transit), Brisbane '18JL47' transit, minor blemishes. This was the First Day of Issue for the Ball Bay series, and the package no doubt contained an order for stamps (and probably FDCs, hence the size). Although David Murray Brown does not mention the Insured Parcel label, he does the handstamp (Type 12(d); recorded 1947) which probably refers to this item.

3482 c image1949 (Dec 5) Commonwealth Savings Bank passbook envelope with the characteristic slits at sides, to New Zealand with Ball Bay 1½d green & 9d violet tied by indistinct 'NORFOLK ISLAND/AUST.' cds (Stop After 'T') with a very fine strike of the 'No Stop After T' cds at lower-left, minor stain slightly affecting the 9d value. Although not endorsed "Air Mail", the item was apparently paid for double the New Zealand airmail letter rate: until 30.6.1949, this was 5d per ½oz plus ½d War Tax (the rate paid); from 1.7.1949 the rate was 5½d per ½oz, making this item ½d underpaid (either not detected or allowed to pass untaxed). A scarce and unusual item. Ex Stephen Bradford: sold for $358.
