until 1868, so usage at Rapid Bay must be much scarcer.

two very fine strikes on cover to Adelaide with De La Rue Perf 10 2d orange, to "Loyal Albion Lodge" with very fine GPO arrival backstamp of the same date. Stagecoach service between Adelaide & Mount Pleasant from 1.1.1867 until 1870. Apparently
re-opened circa 1873 with dates recorded OC-/73 to OC1/75. This is the strike illustrated by Martin Walker & in the Handbook. One of the most desirable datestamp covers of South Australia.

Perkins Bacon Rouletted 2d pale red to cover to "Richd Hicks/City Chambers/Adelaide" endorsed "per Overland Mail", unusually with no arrival cds but docketed "Recd 21.11.61" at left. Renamed from Guichen Bay -.6.1847. [Established in 1840, the City
of Adelaide was the first municipal authority in Australia. The only reference we could find to a "Richard Hicks" was to a delinquent debtor, so the addressee was probably not the Town Clerk]
