EARLIEST RECORDED DATE: 1d red ACSC 74 (SG 50) tied by Melbourne '17DEC/1919' machine cancel with 'HELP REPATRIATION/BUY WAR SAVINGS/CERTIFICATES' slogan to Shierlaw cover (back flap missing, but not a front), slightly trimmed at top & small closed tear at base. The ACSC states "The earliest recorded date of use is 17 December 1919, on a cover from Melbourne", presumably referring to this item.
