Andrew Johnston plated this Die 1a as [Pos 8L34]. The rate was 1½d foreign postcard (increased to 2d on 4.8.1930).

246 nh image½d orange Electro 9 with Missing Right Frame behind Emu (Repaired State with Very Thin Frame) [Pos 9R51] as ACSC 67(9)n being the upper-central unit in a marginal block of 6 (3x2) from the base of the sheet, quite well-centred, unmounted, unlisted in this printing & state. The ACSC states that "Existence in this issue has not been confirmed". Under the Single Watermark issue, the ACSC states that this variety "occurs only occasionally, and was probably corrected by makeready for most printings". In its corrected state, the unit is platable from Small White Dot to Left of '2' in Left Value Tablet and Small White Flaw (Broken Shading Line) at Back of King's Head. The Very Thin Frame state is worthy of catalogue status on its own, and its existence here strongly suggests that the Missing Right Frame state should also exist in this issue.

247 nh image½d orange Electro 9 complete sheet with AJ Mullett Imprint block of 4 ACSC 67(9)z and all ACSC-listed varieties except Missing Right Frame behind Emu [Pos 9R51] although the frame does show some evidence of thinning, an aberrant strike of the comb perforator in the margin at lower-right, centring variable, a few small pin-holes in the side margins only, light vertical folds through the central gutter & the central perfs of each pane, small hinge remainders in the upper & lower margins only, the stamps all unmounted, Cat $4500+ for the imprint block & listed varieties mounted and 105 unmounted singles.

Cerebos were a major producer of salt, famous for their multi-coloured advertising postcards. The British Empire printed matter rate was 1d per 2oz, but the item has been taxed as under-paying the 2d per 1oz British Empire letter rate (introduced on 4.8.1930).

The ACSC states (footnote 1) that this variety "occurs only occasionally, and was probably corrected by makeready for most printings". In its corrected state, the unit is platable from Small White Dot to Left of '2' in Left Value Tablet and Small White Flaw (Broken Shading Line) at Back of King's Head. The Very Thin Frame state is worthy of catalogue status on its own.

Twelve lead moulds were affected by foreign matter on the die when struck, creating the so-called 'Die 1a', which were then randomly placed in the forme throughout Electro 8. A scarce se-tenant pair, espcially used on cover.
