513 c image1930 (Jan 2) Australian National Airways Brisbane-Sydney AAMC 149 cover with KGV 1½d red & Airmail 3d plus private 'FIRST FLIGHT/SYDNEY-BRISBANE/AERIAL MAIL' black/red label all tied by 'WOOLOONGABBA/ QUEENSLAND' cds, 'KYOGLE/2.1.30' (NSW) h/s in violet on face, Sydney arrival b/s of the next day, a couple of minor blemishes, Cat $225. Carried by the 'Southern Sky', which smashed its undercarriage during a forced landing near Kyogle (60km W of Casino, NSW). The mail was carried by road to Ballina and flown to Sydney the next day. Surprisingly scarce.

514 c/cO image1931 KLM Proving Flight 16pp exhibit of mostly philatelic covers from Batavia including a GB acceptance with 2/6d Seahorse & one onwards to New Zealand, mostly with the commemorative stamp including a rare usage of a block of 6; and to Batavia including several onwards to Holland & elsewhere including Estonia, five usages of the printed commemorative envelope one with the stamps clear of the rate information printed at upper-right; several registered & several to or from Dutch consuls, and a few are definitely commercial mail. Ex Brian Pope.  (27 covers)

515 c image1932 (March 18) cover endorsed "By Kingsford Smith's/Special Flight to New/Zealand on Mar 19th/Austr National Airways" with Bridge 2d red and Air Mail 6d sepia tied by Sydney Airmail cds, very fine 'AIR SERVICE/NOT AVAILABLE' h/s in violet on face, annotated "Received/Wednesday March 23", a couple of minor blemishes. The AAMC does not list any flights to New Zealand by Charles Kingsford Smith (nor anyone else) at this time. Kingsford Smith did conduct a commemoration flight on 19.3.1932 for the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but crashed: was he planning on flying on to New Zealand later that same day?

516 D image1943 Trans-Indian Ocean Catalina service 'SECRET ORDER OF THE DOUBLE SUNRISE' certificate (215x144mm) signed by the pilot "WH Crowther", in the name of Hudson Fysh and autographed by him. Very scarce. [The non-stop flight between Perth & Lake Koggala in Ceylon was the longest in the world. On this occasion, took 31 hours 45 minutes! Wilmot Hudson Fysh was one of the founders of QANTAS]

517 D image1945 Trans-Indian Ocean Liberator service 'ELEVATED ORDER OF THE LONGEST HOP' certificate (220x146mm) signed by the pilot "KG Jackson", in the name of Hudson Fysh. Very scarce. [From late in the war, land-based planes flew across the Indian Ocean from Learmonth (WA) to Colombo's Ratmalana Airport. The transit time was slashed to some 14 hours. From 1.2.1946, flights were again between Perth & Ceylon, with a stop at Cocos Islands]
