REVENUES: Original handpainted stamp-size essay for an 'INLAND/REVENUE' 4c stamp in shades of violet with Chinese white highlights &
simulated perforations on tracing paper (85x74mm), endorsed at the top "Jan.7.89/A". Unique and exquisite. [A similar essay is illustrated in 'The De La Rue Collection' at page 4614 dated "1878", which appears to be an error. The design was not
adopted; it was decided instead to print the 4c 'POSTAGE' stamp in lilac and issue this with 'INLAND/REVENUE' overprint: see SG R2] (Image1)
